Tonight’s Contenders: Back to School

Labour day is here. The time of year that parents cherish and kids dread. Children are finally being sent back to their school prisons, while college students head back to campus to read books and drink beers. Here’s a list of movie contenders that will help us recognize this bittersweet time of year.

Billy Madison (1995) – 89 min

In order to inherit his fed up father’s hotel empire, an immature and lazy man must repeat grades 1-12 all over again.

To help his discouraged son get through college, a funloving and obnoxious rich businessman decides to enter the school as a student himself.

School of Rock (2003) – 108 min

After being kicked out of a rock band, Dewey Finn becomes a substitute teacher of a strict elementary private school, only to try and turn it into a rock band.

PCU (1994) – 79 min

A high school senior visits college for the weekend, and stays at the wildest house on campus in this classic tale of anti-political-correctness.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) – 103 min

A high school wise guy is determined to have a day off from school, despite what the principal thinks of that.

High School High (1996) – 86 min

Richard Clark has just left the well-known Wellington Academy to teach at Marion Barry High School. Now, he will try to inspire the D-average students into making good grades and try to woo a fellow teacher.
